Chamfer’s third floor apartment

The building was built in 1897. The access to the ground floor is through  the street but the plot occupies part of the chamfer.

The chamfers are one of the characteristic elements of the plan Cerdà that orders urbanistically the Eixample. Ildefons Cerdà designed the corners in order to separate the crossing from the road traffic (it should be noted that at the end of the SXIX and early SXX the traffic was also of animal traction) of the crossing point of pedestrians, improving safety and releasing a space in the corners. On the other hand, the orientation of the urban plot is established in such a way that the South coincides with the diagonal of the apples, thus managing to reduce the facade oriented strictly to the North. In the same way, in each block, only one chamfer faces south.

In this case, the apartment’s façade on the chamfer faces south, with the optimal orientation in light and sunny. On the other hand, the street is wider than the common streets of the Eixample. The streets are 20 meters wide and the street is 30 meters. This is because the railway originally passed through it (at this moment the passage is underground).
